Gift for the Man in Your Life

December 11th, 2008

I like to think that I buy great gifts. Thoughtful and considerate for each person on my list. With the holidays right around the corner, I started thinking about the men in my life and what they would love to get. Sometimes the easiest thing to do is pick a theme and buy gifts according to that theme.

For the men in your life who love working out, pampering and everything spa I recommend the Osmotics Cosmeceuticals Male Daily Essential Set which has products for every step in grooming.Osmotics Cosmeceuticals

I also like the L’Occitane en Provence Cade Reinvigorating Shower Gel for hair and body.

Shower Gel by L'Occitane

These gifts are also perfect for your guy to pop into his gym bag.

Another gift that I always buy is cologne . I really love Calvin Klein’s Perfume Contradiction . Contradiction by Calvin Klein

Smells Yummy !

Another great gift could be a new pair of work out sneakers. New Balance has great styles for cross trainers, runners and walkers . New Balance Basically …. for everyone on your list. And if your guy doesn’t work out, then maybe a pair of colorful Puma’s to wear with jeans.

Pumas

Another great gift for the gym enthusiast on your list is a new sweat suit. If you can’t find a set that you like, try mixing and matching. Try Serious sweat pants or track pants Contradiction by Calvin Klein

and then get him a sweat shirt with his favorite team’s logo on it.

To pull it all together and not go crazy with all that wrapping, a nice new tote or gym bag is the perfect encasement for all the spa gifts. My favorite bag is the Canvas Tote bag. It can be used for the gym or romantic weekends away.

Buying gifts should be easy and nothing to get stressed about. Keep it simple and fun and watch their eyes light up when they are unwrapping or unzipping that Canvas Tote .

Weekend Getaway Wardrobe for Holidays

November 21st, 2008

The week-end get-a-way wardrobe

With only a few days away until the start of the Holiday season, most of us will be travelling at least once to family or friends’ homes to share in the festivities. Packing and knowing what to bring can rival that dreaded experience of spending time with those relatives you try to forget the rest of the year.

They say that most people travel for Thanksgiving and knowing what to pack for that get-a-way is always challenging because you have several things that you need to factor in before you start ripping everything out of your closet. First, are you going to your parents or your other half’s ? Will you be going out to dinner while there or staying in for the weekend ? Will you be sightseeing and walking through town or driving to the mall for the Black Friday shopping experience ?

Once you have that figured out, packing will be a breeze. Plan ahead and ForgottenSizes.com can provide everything you need - fun, fashion clothes in hard to find sizes.

I like to start with the bottoms first. A pair of dark denim jeans

Dark Wash Jeans

and a pair of black cotton pants

Black Cotton Pants

start to build the basics. A simple black turtle neck

Black Turtleneck

and a crisp white mens wear inspired shirt

White Shirt

You should also pack a sweater set,

Cardigan Sweater

something with a little color or maybe a little pattern- but please, leave the snow flake or snow man design home. The next essential piece and probably my favorite is a cropped jacket Cropped Jacket

that you can pair with the sweater set, wear over the turtle neck as well as the white shirt. You should pack a pair of leggings

Leggings

and a tunic dress that you can wear over the leggings.

Tunic

I really love the boat neck tunic dress .

Tunic

Wear it with leggings to be casual or bring black tights to dress it up. Opaque Tights

With these basics you will be covered for whatever activity comes up, even meeting your new boyfriend’s family for the first time.

Should any special outfits be required for the holidays, you might enjoy this!

Something Special!

What will you be packing for your weekend get-a-way ? What piece of clothing can you not live without ? Let us know, we’d love to hear from you.

If you like our columns and fashions, forward this to your friends!

Happy Holidays,

Purple is a Sign of Royalty

November 3rd, 2008

True style mavens know that the color purple through out history has meant everything from Regalness to Royalty and everything in between. Deep purple suggests wealth while lighter shades are more romantic and delicate. Pantone has picked the color Blue Iris (Pantone 18-3943) as the 2008 Color of the Year. “Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.”

Purple has sprung up on lots of fall runways as the it color of the season.

While wearing head to toe purple is probably not a good idea- unless you are the one eyed, one horned flying purple people eater, it’s best to use purple as a statement or accent color. We all have that staple black hand bag, especially for Fall. I love the darker plums and royals that are en pointe for the season. Instead of basic leather, the degarde patent is a delicious option as is purple pony hair or plum suede. Melany by Amanda

We always get questions from our customers asking what color shoe should be worn with a purple gown ? The answer is not to match your shoe to your gown. Stick with a metallic shoe.

Skyla by Sofft Pewter goes best with darker shades of purple and silver Abby by Touch Ups goes best with the lighter shades. Gold can be another option as long as it isn’t brassy.

Men can instantly update their look by putting a purple dress shirt with a dark navy or black suit. Just by adding a little color can make all the difference.

Do you have a favorite shade of purple ? Let us know your thoughts.

What’s A Girl To Do?

October 23rd, 2008

What’s a girl to do ?

To all of you fashionista’s out there worried about the economy and how you are going to get through Fall without updating your wardrobe because of it, this one is for you. We are all worried about home heating prices, job security and the such but true fashionista’s whose budgets are dwindling are adding Fall wardrobe to the list. Even with a failing ecomony, we don’t want to look like our wardrobe needs a billion dollar bail out too. So, with out spending a billion what’s a girl to do ?

She becomes frugal, thrifty, creative and really crafty with the old and the new. One place to start is within your own closet- clean it out. Get rid of everything that is ill-fitting, put aside everything that needs to be mended or altered and really see what you have to work with. Once you get yourself organized you can let the shopping begin.

The easiest way to update on the cheap is with accessories. Scarves are an easy way to update the neck of a sweater to change the look. Can’t find any scarves you like, then go to a fabric store to buy a few yards of fabric (or look in the dollar bins that the have) and make your own buy hand stitching the edges. While you are at the fabric store, you can buy new buttons for that cardigan in your wardrobe. Take a simple black cardigan, snip off the buttons and replace them with a sparkly glass button to wear over a cocktail dress.

Adding new jewelry can totally change any old outfit. Shopping at discount and department stores for marked down jewelry is a must for anyone on a budget. Even if you find a necklace you hate but you love the beads, buy it, take it apart and remake what you want. Tights are another inexpensive way to change the entire look of a dress or skirt. Add a patterned tight with a solid skirt or dress to make it stand out.

Still feel the need to go on a shopping trip. . . go with a budget in mind. Start in the sale section and work your way towards the front of the store where the new, more expensive items are. Always try on before you leave the store and disguard anything that you know in your heart you won’t wear or repair.

Using these simple ideas will surely save you money and bring out your creative side without breaking the bank.

Forgotten Sizes- Plus, Tall and Regular Sizes for Men & Women

PRESS RELEASE

October 8, 2008

www.ForgottenSizes.com

New Shopping Source for Hard to Find Size Fashion
(Boston, MA)

As much of America turns to “retail therapy” to cope with the news of the day, taller men and women, as well as plus size men and women are missing out on the shopping fun. That changes this week with the launch of www.ForgottenSizes.com . With sections for both men and women and departments including plus size, tall size and regular size apparel, shopping for hard to find size clothes and shoes can be fun too. Categories include the usual pants, jackets, dresses and tops. There are also categories by size for the even harder to find lingerie, maternity wear and more.

“ForgottenSizes.com is a natural extension of the work we have done for years at www.DesignerShoes.com with women who need shoes in hard to find longer and wider sizes,” according to Barbara Thornton, founder and president. “ForgottenSizes.com assembles the most interesting choices from a wide range of retail sources to make this customer’s shopping experience more rewarding”, she says. “Stores rarely carry these sizes at all. Our customers are used to shopping from catalogues and, increasingly, searching the web from one site to another searching for something that fits. Now terrific choices are in one place – and they are updated all the time.”

This is a huge market. As of July, 2008 there are about 242 million adults in the USA according to the US “World Fact Book”. About 39% of these adults need clothing that is cut for either a taller frame or a heavier frame, or both. An estimated 14.5% of men and 5% of women need tall sizes. And a minimum of 30% of the population needs plus sizes. That’s over 95 million people who can’t find their sizes in regular stores.

DesignerShoes.com is the premier provider of “fashion shoes for women who leave a larger footprint”. It carries only longer and wider sizes from about 40 different brands and it’s own private label line, Forgotten Soles. Sizes on the site range from 6WW to 15WW.

Shopping for your hard to find size

September 29th, 2008

My guess is that apparel manufacturers don’t spend much time looking at demographic data. People come in so many different shapes and sizes. But clothes tend to be cut for the average height man or woman and then get graded wider as the size goes up. Men are so much luckier - they have a long tradition of being able to find pants in different lengths and shoes in different widths.

Take a look at the Army height and weight charts - where do you fit? And what clothing sizes do these measurements represent? Who knows!?!

Women need to make do - buying a larger size with the hope it will be longer too. But forget about ever finding a dress that comes to your waist if you are over 5 ft 8 inches …. unless you are short waisted. Then you’d be long legged and forget about finding pants that come to your heels!

We want to dress up too. Go to the prom, look polished for the job interview, look smashing on Saturday night…… We’ve assembled a terrific collection of choices for men and for women at our website, www.ForgottenSizes.com.

We are tired of being forgotten sizes. Let’s hear from you. What categories of clothes can’t you find? What wild goose chase shopping trips have you gone on in search of something to wear?

Let’s share our stories!
